Local Life · The Invermere guide

Find your people. Find your rhythm.

Places to return to, ways to lend a hand and small steps towards feeling at home.

The first familiar face often comes from doing something you enjoy twice. Start small: a gallery visit, an event, a volunteer conversation or a programme you can return to.

You do not need to join everything. Choose a place where you feel comfortable, ask what is coming up and give yourself time to become a regular.

01

Start with something you enjoy

Columbia Valley Arts runs Pynelogs Cultural Centre and Art Gallery. Its programme includes exhibitions, workshops and performances, making it a useful starting point if art, music or making things is already part of your life.

Choose one event from the current calendar. Ask whether you need to book, whether beginners are welcome and what you should bring. If attending alone feels like a big first step, an exhibition visit can be a simpler place to begin.

02

Make the library one of your bookmarks

Look at the Invermere Public Library’s current programme and ask the staff what might suit your interests. A reading event, a group activity or simply a regular visit can give a new week a welcome bit of structure.

Before turning up for a programme, confirm the date, location and registration arrangements directly. Schedules change, so the library’s own website is a better bookmark than an old event listing.

03

Lend a hand in a way that suits you

CVArts invites people to help with gallery hosting and activities behind the scenes. Wildsight Invermere also welcomes volunteers for its local work. Start with a conversation about the time and tasks you would enjoy.

Ask about a single event or a short first commitment if you are still settling in. Be clear about whether you prefer an indoor role, an outdoor activity, regular hours or occasional help.

  • How much time does the role usually involve?
  • Will someone show me what to do?
  • Can I try one event before committing regularly?

04

Get to know the stories behind the place

The Windermere Valley Museum is a starting point for learning about the area’s past. Check its current visiting information, then make time for more than a quick look around.

For what is happening now, use the Valley news board and the local event calendar. Pick something because it sounds enjoyable, and ask a neighbour whether they would like to come along. A shared outing can be the beginning of a good routine.
