Things to Do · The Invermere guide

A good day, at your own pace.

Lakeside time, a little art, a longer walk or a winter outing: start with the kind of day you feel like having.

Local resources checked

You do not need a packed itinerary to enjoy the Valley. Choose one main outing, allow time for a stop along the way and leave yourself a comfortable route home.

Here are four ways to shape a day. Each comes with a local starting point and the details worth checking before you leave.

01

A lakeside afternoon

Kinsmen Beach & Park is on Lake Windermere, beside Dorothy Lake and Pynelogs Cultural Centre. The District lists picnic tables, grassy areas and a playground among its facilities. Make the park your main stop, then check whether the gallery has an exhibition open that day.

In warm weather, a picnic can be the whole plan. In cooler months, a short visit followed by an indoor stop may suit better. Check seasonal facilities and parking information rather than assuming summer services are available year-round.

02

Choose a stretch of trail

The Markin-MacPhail Westside Legacy Trail is a paved, non-motorized route between Invermere and Fairmont Hot Springs. You can enjoy a short out-and-back section without making the full trail your goal.

Use the trail map to choose a starting point and a comfortable turnaround. Check the terrain, weather and current conditions; paved does not automatically mean flat or suitable for every mobility need.

  • Choose your turnaround before starting
  • Check parking and the nearest facilities
  • Bring layers and allow for a slower return

03

A day for stories and creativity

Build an indoor afternoon around one exhibition, a library programme or a visit to the Windermere Valley Museum. These are also useful options when friends or family want a break from outdoor activities.

Check opening days before travelling. For a workshop or special event, look for registration requirements and ask about access, seating and the length of the session.

04

When the lake becomes a winter destination

Toby Creek Nordic maintains the Lake Windermere Whiteway for winter recreation. Its own conditions page is the place to check whether the route is open and what activities are currently available.

Treat a Whiteway outing as a weather-dependent plan. Check the operator’s current report, passes and notices before setting out, and have a land-based alternative ready. A calendar date or a cold morning is not an opening notice.
